Let’s Start With the Truth
If your dating profile feels like it’s not working, here’s what I want you to know: it’s not you. But it might be your words.
Too many profiles read like a LinkedIn bio or a shopping list for a perfect partner:
“I love travel, sushi, and Netflix. Looking for someone honest, fun, and kind.”
Okay. Cute. But it could be anyone.
And love? Real love? It’s not looking for “anyone.” It’s looking for you.
What Makes a Great Dating Profile?
I’ve been matchmaking for over 15 years, and here’s what works — whether you’re swiping in Toronto, Hamilton, or Halifax:
1. It sounds like you — not like you’re selling yourself.
Talk to the reader like you would to a friend who’s asking, “What are you really like in relationships?”
“I’m the kind of person who brings a second coffee to surprise you, but also needs a bit of quiet time after social stuff.”
2. It says something real.
You don’t need to reveal your entire trauma history, but something personal helps people feel connected.
“I’m 5 years post-divorce and feel more like myself than I ever have. Now I’m looking for someone who’s done their growth work, too.”
3. It hints at the future you want.
Paint a picture — emotionally and practically.
“Sunday mornings at a farmer’s market, long hikes that end with takeout, and waking up next to someone I actually like — that’s the vibe.”
What to Leave Out
- “Just ask” — Suggests low effort and disinterest.
- “Fluent in sarcasm” — Might come off emotionally closed-off.
- “No drama” — Often a red flag in disguise.
- “Don’t waste my time” — High defensiveness, low connection.
Dating is a vibe. Keep it kind, clear, and open-hearted.

About Rebecca
I’m Rebecca Cooper Traynor, founder of Match Me Canada. Since 2009, I’ve helped thousands of singles across Toronto and Canada attract love with clarity, confidence, and no BS.
I’m not your average matchmaker. I’m a coach, a cheerleader, a truth-teller — and sometimes, a gentle wake-up call in red lipstick.
This work is personal to me — because I’ve been where you are. And I know what it feels like to want more. The good news? You can have it. You just need the right words, the right energy, and a little strategy.
In a Nutshell
Writing a dating profile that attracts real love means being authentic, emotionally aware, and future-oriented — not perfect. If you’re ready to stop blending in and start standing out, Match Me Canada can help you get there.
