If you search for a matchmaker in Toronto you will find a dozen names, a lot of confident marketing and almost nothing that tells you how the services actually differ. After seventeen years as a Toronto matchmaker, and after acquiring four other matchmaking agencies along the way, I know most of the people on this list. Some are excellent. Several are friends. The point of this page is not to rank them. It is to explain the real differences in price, approach and client type, so you spend your money once, in the right place.
The Three Kinds of Matchmaking in Toronto
Almost every matchmaking service in the city falls into one of three models, and knowing which one you are looking at explains most of the price difference.
Luxury search firms. These are national or international companies with a Toronto office or a Toronto page. They run a full recruitment style search on your behalf, often across several cities, and their fees generally start in the mid five figures. They suit people with very specific requirements, a demanding schedule and a budget to match.
Boutique local matchmakers. Independent, usually founder led, with a personal database built over years of interviews and events in the GTA. Fees are typically in the low to mid four figures for a package of introductions, sometimes with coaching included. This is the largest group in Toronto and the one most people are actually choosing between.
Volume dating services. Franchise style companies that arrange a set number of dates for a fixed fee. The process is more standardized, the vetting is lighter, and the fit is usually decided by a questionnaire rather than a long conversation. They work best for people who want frequent dates and are comfortable with a wider net.
The right matchmaker is not the most expensive one. It is the one whose database is full of the people you actually want to meet.

Here are the services that show up most often when Toronto singles search, with a plain description of what each one is known for. I have kept this to what the companies say about themselves and what clients commonly report, and I would encourage you to speak with two or three before you decide.
Shanny in the City (Shannon Tebb). A well known boutique Toronto matchmaker and dating coach with a strong local reputation and a long track record. Personal, hands on, and a good fit for professionals who want coaching alongside introductions.
Single in the City (Laura Bilotta). Combines matchmaking with singles events and a large local network. A good option if you want to meet people in person at events as well as through introductions.
Mutual Match. A Toronto matchmaking service that also offers online dating assistance. Suits people who want a matchmaker to help them across both offline introductions and the apps.
Lyons Elite and Preferred Match. Toronto based services positioned at the luxury end of the local market, with a focus on accomplished and high net worth clients.
Selective Search, Kelleher International and Cinqe. Large North American search firms with a Toronto presence. Extensive, expensive and thorough, and generally aimed at executives who want a national search.
It’s Just Lunch. The best known volume dating service, arranging lunch or drinks dates for a package fee. Structured and predictable, with less individual vetting than a boutique matchmaker.

Five Questions to Ask Any Toronto Matchmaker
- Who is actually in your database? Ask about age range, neighbourhoods and how people are vetted. A matchmaker whose clients are mostly men in their thirties cannot help a woman in her fifties, no matter how good they are.
- Who does the matching? The founder, or a coordinator you have never met? In a boutique service you should know the name of the person choosing your introductions.
- What happens after a date? Good matchmaking includes feedback in both directions. If there is no structured follow up, you are paying for introductions, not matchmaking.
- Is coaching included? Most people who come to a matchmaker also need to change something about how they date. Find out whether that is part of the program or an upsell.
- What does confidentiality look like? Our clients are professionals who do not want their dating life discussed. Ask how your profile is shared and with whom.
