Inside a Matchmaking Introduction
Matchmaking Introduction: How It Actually Works, From Search to Second Date
Clients often assume I pull a name from a list. In reality, a matchmaking introduction has six steps, most of them invisible to you, and each one is there to protect your time.

When people ask what a Toronto matchmaker does between the first conversation and the first date, the honest answer is: most of the work. A matchmaking introduction that looks effortless from the outside has usually taken real searching, several conversations, and careful checking. Here is how it runs at Match Me Canada, step by step.
Step One: Every Matchmaking Introduction Starts With a Search
Every search starts with the picture from our conversation, not a filter on a database. First, I look for the qualities you respond to, and second for the practical fit: location, life stage, children and schedule. Then I search our own network, which I have been building since 2009. Because I also work with trusted matchmaking partners, an introduction can come from their clients as well as ours.
Step Two: The Vetting
Before you hear about anyone, I do the vetting. I find out whether the person is genuinely available and ready, because people’s lives change. Someone who was ready a few months ago may not be today. I also describe you honestly, without identifying you, and confirm there is real interest on their side. Only then does the matchmaking introduction move forward.
By the time you hear about someone, they have already said yes to hearing about you. That is the difference between an introduction and a swipe.
Step Three: Your Decision
Then I come to you. I tell you who they are, what drew me to them for you, and, just as important, the one or two things that might give you pause. Frankly, I would rather you hear those from me than discover them on the date. You can ask anything. You can also say no, and it costs you nothing. After all, I would much rather set up three dates you were excited about than six you agreed to out of politeness.
Step Four: The Date
Once you both say yes, the introduction is made and the date is arranged. The details are handled so that the only thing you have to think about is showing up. Contact information is exchanged at this point, and not before. Matchmaking introductions are focused on Toronto and the GTA, because that is where my network is strongest.
Step Five: Feedback From Both Sides
After the date, we gather feedback from both people. What worked, what did not, and whether you would like to see each other again. This is the step most people have never experienced, and it is where the real value sits. Honest feedback, delivered gently, tells you things nobody else in your life will. It also tells me exactly how to adjust the next search.
Step Six: The Second Date, or the Next Search
If you both want a second date, I step back and let it become yours. I stay available if you want to talk anything through, and many clients do. If one of you is not feeling it, I take what we learned and go back to step one with a sharper picture. Either way, you are never left wondering what happened.
Questions People Ask About a Matchmaking Introduction
How long does it take to meet someone?
Every search is different, so I do not promise a timeline. That said, many clients start meeting noticeably better people within about six weeks, mostly because they stop repeating the thing that was not working.
Do I have to live in Toronto?
For matchmaking introductions, yes, Toronto and the GTA are the focus. Coaching and online dating support happen by video and phone, so I work with clients across Canada and the US.
What if I like someone and they do not feel the same?
It happens, and I will tell you honestly and kindly. Then we use what we learned. Almost every client who has stayed with the process has had that experience once, and it is rarely the story they remember at the end.
