Dating. Whether you love it or hate it, it all comes down to you.
Maybe you’re frustrated because you keep meeting people you are interested in that don’t feel the same about you. Or perhaps you feel like the dating options out there are the bottom of the barrel.
Sound familiar?
If so, I want you to take a step back and look inside yourself. If you feel like you’re stuck in an endless cycle, a break is necessary—but you are not giving up!
Homework Time: How Well Do You Know Yourself?
Take the time to reconnect with yourself. Find out who you are inside, what makes you tick.
- Take a Self-Inventory. What do you love about yourself? What are the best qualities of yourself that you bring to a relationship? Start by taking inventory. Write it down. Focus on the positives.
- Imagine Your Perfect Match. Once you’ve finished your personal inventory, take some time to focus on the person you want to meet. What qualities do they have that you are attracted to? Think beyond the physical. Who are they on the inside? What words come to mind? Kindness, patience, communication, ambition, optimism – these are just a few examples. Imagine your perfect match and describe them without talking about their physical attributes.
- Visualize Your Love. Are you ready to have some fun? This next step will keep you focused on the goal. Put together a love life vision board. Add words and photos that will help you stay focused on who your match might be. Take your time completing this step as it will help you get to a better place, to hone your ideas of what love looks like to you.
Keep in mind –a vision board is dynamic, so you can always add to it as your images come into sharper focus. Having a visual representation of what you’re striving for will help you move forward and have something (ahem, I mean someone) to look forward to meeting.
Make sure your love life vision board includes qualities you will have as a couple—not just attributes about your intended partner. Place your vision board somewhere you will see it often. Then, when you come upon it, take a moment to look at the photos, the words, and feel all the feels it brings.
The Truth About Dating
Dating sounds fun, but it isn’t always easy—especially if you’re just getting back out there after being off the market for a while. Finding someone you can relate to, feel comfortable with, and have passion for might seem like a needle-in-the-haystack activity, and we get that. Dating is not for the faint of heart!
However, if you are clear about your intentions, have confidence in what you have to offer, and are willing to step outside your comfort zone, the process won’t be nearly as fraught as you’re giving it credit for. After all, meeting new people is always an experience.
Once you’ve completed your dating homework, the next step is to get out there and start dating. Chances are, the “one” you’ve been searching for is also looking for you.
