Hello darlings,
Rebecca here from Match Me Canada, and today I want to talk about the importance of sharing stories about yourself when you’re getting to know someone new. So often, we get caught up in the facts and figures of our lives – where we went to school, what we do for work, where we grew up – that we forget that these details don’t really tell the whole story of who we are.
Now, don’t get me wrong – there’s nothing wrong with sharing these facts with your date. But if you really want to connect with someone on a deeper level, it’s important to dig a little deeper and share the stories behind the facts.
Let’s take the example of going to university and becoming a real estate lawyer. Sure, you could tell your date that you went to XYZ University and became a real estate lawyer. But what if you told them the story of why you chose that university in the first place? Maybe you had a cousin who went there, and the two of you were really close growing up. And then, you could share that your favourite uncle was a real estate lawyer, and you found him so inspiring in so many ways. You looked up to him and found yourself drawn to his passion for the law and his dedication to helping others.
Now, isn’t that a much more telling story about who you are as a person? It helps your date get to know you on a much deeper level, and it shows them that you’re someone who values family and has a passion for helping others. And in turn, it helps them feel more comfortable sharing about themselves and their own stories.
So, my darlings, the next time you’re getting to know someone new, try to focus on the stories behind the facts. Share your passions, your inspirations, your fears, and your dreams. These are the things that make us who we are, and they’re what will help you truly connect with someone else.
